Of Least Resistance
Casey Schreiner

Outside a parking garage, droplets
Of water condense and form
Painstakingly on the muted silver
Cage of a whirring air conditioner.

Glistening, they hug the side
Of the grate, patiently caressing
Steel before joining others,
Plummeting toward quiet explosions.

Beneath the machine, small
Streams of water wind methodically
Through gravel like crystalline
Serpents searching for their next meal.
